books for teens

Every week, 60second Recap host Jenny Sawyer reviews a newly published book of potential
interest to teenagers. Since its September, 2009 launch, Sawyer’s 60second Book Review has
featured over 200 such books, and Sawyer herself has become one of the most widely followed
reviewers specializing in books for teens. Recently reviewed teen-friendly titles have
ranged from Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline to Allegiant by Veronica Roth.

Sawyer says the 60-second format is tied to the sensibility of her audience. “If you’re
going to write about books for teens, you’re going to want to get to the point, and
quickly,” she says. “Especially when it comes to teens, whether you’re writing books for
teens or you’re writing reviews about books for teens, teens don’t want their time wasted.
So I don’t.”

60second Book Review augments the 60second Recap video study guide library, aimed at
helping teens understand the classic literature assigned in secondary schools throughout
the English-speaking world. 60second Recap’s focused format is now a classroom staple
and, recently, was featured on the CBS Evening News.
